Standard Wheels?

Does Your Tractor Have Standard Wheels?

Probably NOT! To recommend a particular tractor wheel weight, we often ask our customers to tell us the wheel size on their particular tractor model. Very often they reply that they have “standard wheels” on their machine. What they really mean is that they bought their tractor as it was equipped and in stock on the dealer’s lot. Most tractor manufacturers offer different wheel sizes and profiles for the same model of machines. Ideally these options would be selected based on the work to be performed. More often, especially for smaller compact and utility tractors, these option decisions were made by the dealership for reasons other than the actual purchaser’s best option for intended use.

  • Some of the minor brands, especially imported brands, do not offer optional wheel sizes on their machines. This is rare and most manufacturers do offer wheel size options.
  • One of the most popular utility tractors sold in America offers at least three wheel size and wheel insert options for each model.
  • These three wheel sizes all can use different wheel weights. Differing in size, shape, and actual weight in pounds.
  • The wheels in the accompanying picture are three rear wheel options for the same tractor. They all mount to the tractor in the same manner. HOWEVER, the wheel weight mounting pattern is different in each option.
  • The top wheel contains two wheel weight mounting patterns. It will accept the correct wheel weights with either a 3@14 5/8″ mounting pattern or a 4@11 1/2″ mounting pattern.
  • The middle wheel uses a 4@11 1/2 inch mounting pattern to mount wheel weights.
  • The bottom wheel uses a 4@9 1/2″ mounting pattern to mount wheel weights.

Standard Wheels on Tractors is Very Rare!

When choosing tractor wheel weights, you MUST know the wheel size as well as the wheel weight mounting pattern in your wheel. We cannot guess or guarantee the dimensions and fitment for “standard wheels”. For more information, see our wheel weight mounting page.
